The EQuALLS2 Project held its first municipality-based book fair on May 20, 2010 in Malapatan, Sarangani. One hundred teachers from 20 local public elementary schools selected from 10,000 high-quality English, science, and math supplemental books valued at US$400,000.

The books, which will be used by teachers and students from some of the most disadvantaged schools in Mindanao, were leveraged by the EQuALLS2 Project through a Global Development Alliance partnership with US-based Brother's Brother Foundation.

To date, EQuALLS2's book fair activities and teacher trainings have given out a total of one million books to poor conflict-affected schools in Mindanao. Teachers also received Merriam-Webster dictionaries and math and science teaching materials for their classrooms.

The dictionaries, which teachers frequently cited as the most needed reference material in the classroom, were funded through the partnership of USAID and National Book Store Foundation.

The event kicked off the EQuALLS2 Project's annual support for the Philippine Department of Education's weeklong (May 24-28, 2010) Brigada Eskwela Program, which mobilizes communities and teachers to clean up and prepare schools for their June opening.
