EQuALLS2-assisted out-of-school children and youth took DepED's A&E test in Mindanao on November 6, 2011. |
184 of the out-of-school children and youth (OSCY) from high-poverty conflict-affected areas in Mindanao who participated in EQuALLS2's alternative basic education programs took the Philippine Department of Education's Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) test on November 6, 2011 to earn certificates equivalent to grade school or high school diplomas.
The certificates will enable them to go back to school or pursue better jobs.
The test was indefinitely postponed in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao due to peace and order challenges.
In five years, more than 70,000 OSCY participated in EQuALLS2's alternative basic education programs.
More youth drop out of school in Mindanao due to poverty and conflict than anywhere else in the Philippines, and student education outcomes there are lowest nationwide.
The number of A&E test passers among EQuALLS2 learners in Mindanao more than tripled from 5% in 2009 to 13% in 2010, mainly due to the project's review classes in essay writing, which comprises 50% of the test.
