(L-R) Eugene Penales of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Tess Pineda and Undersecretary Rommel Garcia of the Dangerous Drugs Board receive reproduced copies of the DepED-developed drug abuse prevention education modules and DDB-developed flyers from Mirshariff Tillah of USAID. |
The USAID-funded EQuALLS2 Project launched on July 15, 2010 its support for the Philippine Department of Education's National Drug Education Program with a Drug Abuse Prevention Education Training for 100 school principals, teachers, guidance counselors, and health personnel from EQuALLS2-supported schools in Mindanao from July 15 to 17, 2010 at the Bay Plaza Hotel in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
The training, which was facilitated by trainers from DepED, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Dangerous Drugs Board, oriented the participants on the nature and ill effects of drug abuse; explained the responsibilities of school heads, guidance counselors, and teachers in drug abuse prevention in schools; and discussed the integration of drug abuse prevention messages in the basic education curriculum.
Used during the training were the DepED-developed training modules and DDB-developed flyers that USAID helped reproduce. More trainings will be conducted for other EQuALLS2-supported schools in Mindanao.
