Communities from the municipality of Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat province had a training workshop on the Barangay Education Report Card (BERC) system from July 8 to 10, 2010 in General Santos City.

Fifty community representatives and local government officers participated.

BERC is a tool that will help communities identify and track their own indicators of in- and out-of-school education progress in their village.

The highlight of the workshop was the commitment of the municipal government of Lutayan to craft and lobby for a Sangguniang Barangay (village consultation committee) resolution to create a Municipal Technical Working Group on BERC and adopt the BERC system at the municipal level.

The municipal representatives also committed to install a BERC information corner in village halls, and to establish an MIS-based BERC data bank to show the education progress of each participating barangay.
