NASA Spacewalk and Spacesuit Systems Operations Trainer Engineer Sabrina Singh mingles in an astronaut spacesuit with delighted grade school students at the Malapatan Central Elementary School in Sarangani Province. |
Two engineers from the United States' National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) held a Science Caravan on August 16 for 500 elementary school students from the EQuALLS2-supported Malapatan Central Elementary School in Sarangani Province.
Asia Society-Philippines, the US Embassy, and USAID, through the EQuALLS2 Project, invited the two NASA engineers--Space Shuttle Program Division Chief Engineer Adam Gilmore and Spacewalk and Spacesuit Systems Operations Trainer Sabrina Singh--to provide learning opportunities to Filipino students so that they could become more competitive in science, both regionally and globally.
The event included interactive lectures, one-on-one dialogues, and workshops on such topics as how to "live" in space (astronaut food, space suits, peripherals), how the Space Shuttle works, and how the formation of the solar system affects the moon's shape and image.
