USAID continued to support the Philippines' Department of Education in improving teachers' content knowledge and professional skills through the development of a guide for teacher mentoring in English, science, and math, on May 12-17, 2010.
USAID, through its Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project, is developing a manual on its Learning Partnership Program (mentoring) to guide school heads and teachers in effectively enhancing competencies through school- and district-based learning circles, coaching and mentoring, and training workshops.
The EQuALLS2 Project is also assisting 22 madaris in Mindanao conflict areas in aligning their curricula with DepED's Standard Madrasah Curriculum and in enhancing teachers' professional skills, administrators' school management skills, and capacity to plan and implement school improvement projects. USAID aims to train 35,000 teachers by 2011.
