Many madrasah students in Mindanao have limited access to learning opportunities due to their school’s lack of Departmen of Education (DepED) accreditation.
The EQuALLS2 project assists selected (willing) madaris to meet DepED standards through teacher training  in secular subjects such as English, science, and math; provision of books and learning materials; and physical facilities improvement.
On October 8, 2011, DepED announced that 16 of the 21 EQuALLS2-assisted madaris have qualified for financial assistance after meeting accreditation standards, with the five others to follow.
