USAID, under its EQuALLS2 Project, is awarding scholarships to 750 out-of-school youth (OSY) in Mindanao conflict areas for higher-level training on work skills as well as a one-year college-level scholarship option that respond to current market needs.

On June 15, 2010 in Zamboanga City, the EQuALLS2 Project oriented 18 youth from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Zamboanga Peninsula who qualified for the scholarships.

The scholarship program is meant to make completers of EQuALLS2’s alternative basic education and short-term skills training courses for OSY more employable, and to produce more OSY skills trainers for the region.

The scholarship package covers the assessment and tuition fees, basic starter tools, board and lodging as needed, a daily allowance, and post-training employment assistance in partnership with local agencies and institutions.

In addition to this Scholarship Program, USAID’s EQuALLS2 Project is preparing 35,000 OSY from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Central and Western Mindanao for better income opportunities through livelihood skills training.
