USAID presented its book center and a basic education class for out-of-school youth in Zamboanga City to Mrs. Grace Nelson, the wife of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida, on August 18, 2009. Mrs. Nelson was accompanied by USAID/Philippines Deputy Mission Director Elzadia Washington and Major Tyler Wilson of the Joint Special Operations Task Force (JSOTF) - Philippines. Mrs. Nelson was pleased to know that
USAID will distribute 1.8 million English, science, and math books to Mindanao schools by 2011 under its Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project and that the books are donated by Brother’s Brother Foundation, which gets books from major U.S. book publishers. Mrs. Nelson encouraged the out-ofschool youth to pass their accreditation and equivalency test for reintegration into the formal school system or for high school equivalency certification.
