A major challenge in providing access to quality basic education for Mindanao’s children is the severe lack of classrooms.

USAID, partnering with local NGO Petron Foundation, completed five 2-classroom buildings in Isabela City and Maluso in Basilan island, and in Patikul, Luuk and Omar municipalities in Sulu province, to benefit generations of disadvantaged children.

US Joint Special Operations Task Force (JSOTF) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) soldiers provided the construction crew.

The USAID-Petron partnership, through the EQuALLS2 Project, has built and repaired 600 classrooms in poor conflict-affected areas in Mindanao in five years.
